John Ellis van Courtland Moon collection, [19--].

Record Group 1 contains material resulting from Moon's extensive research and writing in the areas of education and military history and policy, including papers chiefly concerning the reorganization of public higher education in Boston during the 1980s which resulted in the closing of Boston State College as well as others devoted to the subject of tenure; and materials on military history and policy, especially the history of chemical and biological warfare. Record Group 2 consists of materials relating to Moon's time as faculty member at Boston State College, his work with a faculty committee appointed to inquire into the management and administration of the college, then headed by Kermit C. Morrissey, and the reorganization of state higher education in Boston which led to the closing of the college. Record group 3 concerns Moon's longtime interest in, and concern with, public higher education, particularly in Massachusetts, including articles, essays, ERIC documents, and materials from various organizations such as Massachusetts State College Association, Massachusetts Teacher Association, and New England Board of Higher Education, as well as materials on state colleges and universities, particularly Fitchburg State College. Record group 4 reflects his long and active association with American Association of University Professors and his presidency of the Massachusetts Conference, including committee minutes, correspondence, annual meeting items, and miscellaneous materials as well as cases at a number of colleges investigated by AAUP.
